Governor's Office|

Today at my Machakos Office, I met a multi agency team from the National Youth Service (NYS), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the ICT Department.

We had a fruitful discussion aimed at bringing sanity to our boda boda industry.

I am glad that Machakos County has been chosen to pilot a countrywide program that will see over 1.7 million boda boda riders acquire competent riding skills.

The program also aims at moulding our riders into good behaviour, teaching them on the importance of observing the law and also nurturing them on how to relate with the public well. Culturalization of behaviour is very important and we desire to create order in our society.

The NYS, NTSA, Kenya Police and our Machakos inspectorate Department shall play a key role in the implementation process.

Boda boda riders also play a key role in our economy and we desire to see them grow in business.

Through the collective investment scheme, our riders will be empowered with skills on how to make money, grow in business and also in reinvestment.

As a County Government we are willing and ready to support as many boda boda riders as possible to attend the training.

The training that is set to be launched on February 15, 2021 will be offered in our vocational training centres across the county and shall run for five days for those with licences and 21 days for those without.
